Method
- Peel the cucumber and grate it using a box grater.
- Place the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out excess liquid to prevent a watery sauce.
- Transfer the drained cucumber to a mixing bowl.
- Add the Greek yogurt, minced garlic, chopped dill, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and black pepper to the bowl.
- Mix all the ingredients until fully combined and smooth.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more salt, pepper, or lemon juice as desired.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate the tzatziki sauce for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Serve chilled as a dip, spread, or sauce alongside pita bread, grilled meats, or fresh vegetables.
Notes
For best results, use full-fat Greek yogurt and fresh dill. You can substitute dried dill if fresh is unavailable, but reduce the amount to 1 teaspoon.
